EBSCOhost: News from EBSCO Publishing
Content News
EBSCO Publishing has been successful in licensing many new sources of information for inclusion in existing databases as well as content specifically intended for some forthcoming databases. Customers can find any additions and other changes to the databases on monthly title update reports, available at http://www.epnet.com/thisTopic.php?topicID=467 (ID ebsco, password ipswich). Although it is rare that EBSCO experiences a loss of content, they have been asked by various customers to provide an alert regarding any significant stoppage in full text coverage.
Ovid, the owner of Lippincott, Williams & Wilkins (LWW), has notified EBSCO Publishing that they will not renew EBSCO's license of LWW content. As a result 19 LWW journals will no longer offer active full text coverage in EBSCOhost databases. The core LWW journals were never available in full text in EBSCO databases. Therefore, please note that the 19 journals do not represent the top journals available from LWW, and as such, the loss is not significant. The 19 titles will appear on the title update report when the January report is posted.
Database News
At this time, EBSCO now publishes CINAHL and SPORTDiscus. MOREnet is aware that some of our members subscribe to these journals directly, and we are passing on this information as a courtesy. EBSCO Publishing has notified distributors of these databases that they do not plan to renew the distribution agreements for these products. Ovid and SilverPlatter agreements will expire next year, with the exception of SPORTDiscus via SilverPlatter, which expires this year. EBSCO will provide Ovid and SilverPlatter customers with a transitional period with side by side access
to the EBSCOhost interface at no additional charge (for both databases). For additional information on this switch, contact EBSCO Publishing directly at information@epnet.com.
Software News
EBSCO is excited to offer the new Visual Search engine, which will be released this month. A new "Visual Search" tab will soon appear that will provide a great complement to the traditional basic and advanced search options. All customers receive this search option by default; no additional action is required from you. We encourage you to watch this 30 second flash movie for a sneak preview of this exciting new tool:
