Adaptive Computing Technology Center Carpal Tunnel and Voice Recognition
Voice-recognition technology that can be integrated with office software for hands-free, high-speed input is now available at reasonable cost. This equipment and techniques for its use that prevent or assist in the reduction of carpal tunnel syndrome and other such strain or repetitive-injury ailments, is available at the center. Center personnel will assist in determining the software and equipment that best suits your office needs.
Health Connection
A variety of health and fitness programs are available for people of all ages and levels of fitness. Group exercise classes include low-impact aerobics, step-aerobics, body-conditioning, Tai Chi, senior exercise classes, yoga and cardio-kickboxing.
The center offers a variety of exercise equipment, treadmills, bikes, rowing machines, elliptical walker and strength-training equipment. A fitness trainer is available to help establish your personalized fitness program.
The facility offers a "one-on-one," 12-week, personalized nutrition and fitness program designed to help individuals reach their health and fitness goals. Staff also provide on-site fitness evaluations and health screenings for campus and hospital departments.
Call for schedules and cost information. Hours: 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Thursday; 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Friday; 8 a.m. to 12 noon, Saturday.
Mason Eye Institute
Free glaucoma screenings are available 9 to 11 a.m., Thursdays. Other institute services include refractive surgery for correction of nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism and low-vision evaluations where vision cannot be corrected by conventional glasses or contact lenses. Hours: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
University Hospital Health Information Center
The center provides blood pressure monitoring; screening tests (cholesterol and glucose); Hepatitis B, tetanus and Flu shots; classes for stress management, arthritis, fibromyalgia, asthma; and a mall-walking exercise program. A variety of on-site services are also available to campus departments. Some staff discounts apply.
Center personnel provide health information in person, by telephone and via Internet Q&A site. Health books and manuals are also available for public use. The center also publishes the bimonthly Caring Calendar that lists current health activities. Hours: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
University Optical
Employees and family members receive a 25 percent discount, and students a 10 percent discount on services and products, which include: fashion frames for eyeglasses and sunglasses; safety and sports eyewear; frames for babies and children; on-site finishing lab; expertise in frame repair; contact lenses; and visual aids for people whose vision cannot be corrected with glasses or contact lenses.

Wellness Resource Center (WRC) and ADAPT (Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention Team) Office
Provides ongoing programs and services that address a variety of wellness issues such as nutrition, exercise, fitness, stress reduction, parenting information, alcohol and drug abuse issues, etc.
The WRC houses an extensive wellness resource library with
books, brochures, files and interactive computer programs. Services include
nutrition analysis, diabetes screening and alcohol and other drug counseling
and referral. Hours: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
