Software Review: Adobe Audition

Once you have all the audio you want to include in your podcast, you’re going to need to edit it all together, which means you’re going to need audio editing software. For this episode, we used Adobe Audition 1.5. A newer version, Audition 2.0, is now part of Adobe’s Production Studio Premium package.

Audition features the ability to edit individual audio files, combine then into a single project and export the final product in a variety of formats, including MP3, WAV, WMA and even as a CD. The software also features a wide variety of audio effects.

Audition offers an array of features that a professional audio designer would recognize, and is not designed for the novice user. You will want to study up on audio editing and Audition’s specific features before tackling even as simple a project as a podcast.

Adobe Audition 2.0 has a retail price of about $350, with an educational price of $150. It is also available as part of the Adobe Production Suite Premium package, which retails for $1,700, with an educational price of about $650.
