Connections 2007: Sessions
Thursday, 3:45 – 4:45 p.m.
C029. Moodle Course Development
Presenters: Todd Phillips, Chad Baldwin and Barry Bookout, East Central College
Track: Technology Support and Implementation
This presentation will demonstrate various aspects of course development using the free, open-source learning-management system Moodle. The presentation will start with a blank course. Basic course administration options will be discussed, including adding teachers, changing themes, weekly vs. topical formats and block insertion and arrangement. A course will then be developed with typical content of an online class, including uploaded resources, forums, quizzes and lessons.
C031. Troubleshooting WAN Connections – Part 2: Building a LAN-Based
Toolkit to Shorten WAN Outages
Presenters: John Bartin and David Hemmann, MOREnet
Track: Technology Support and Implementation
Learn to make, obtain, and/or use tools that will help MOREnet
more quickly isolate and resolve problems with your site's WAN connection. Learn
how to obtain and use a router console cable to connect to your router and
gain critical troubleshooting information. Learn to make and use a loopback
plug to isolate problems between your router and the circuit provider’s
network interface. Finally, learn to use basic Windows and Linux command
line utilities to quickly isolate and distinguish LAN and WAN problems.
C032. Supporting SMART Boards
Presenter: John Riley, MOREnet
Track: Technology Support and Implementation
SMART Board is an innovative presentation tool that can add
splash and effectiveness to presentations, but it is only effective if it is
used. This session will focus on optimizing and maintaining the SMART Board
interactive whiteboard.
C033. Mac OS X Open Source Servers
Presenter: Jerry Swadley, Waynesville R-VI
Track: Technology Support and Implementation
There are some great open source projects out there. This presentation will walk through setting up a Moodle (moodle.org) server on an OS X server. The system has the ability to send e-mails from the discussion boards and uses
PHP/MySQL, but if you don’t know how to install and setup PHP and MySQL already, I am here to help.
C034. The Bootable USB Drive and Other Tools
Presenter: Alan Portman, University City School District
Track: Technology Support and Implementation
Boot device tool kits can turn you into a miracle worker. No
one can remember the Administrator password? No Problem! During this session,
attendees will have the opportunity to build a bootable USB drive. Other tools
I have come to rely on will be covered. These other tools include two tools
for quickly reading the IE history on a computer, and two very useful tools
for Novell administrators.
C035. Introduction to H.239
Presenter: Jack Slaughter, MOREnet
Track: Technology Support and Implementation
Audio, video and content in the same video connection? We’ll
explore this new ITU-T standard and learn how H.239 defines multiple channels
to allow more productive interaction between instructors and students. A short
presentation and live demonstration of H.239 with information on endpoint compatibility
and display configurations will be included in this one-hour session.
C036. Tools, Tools and More Tools!
Presenter: Patti Dudenhoeffer, MOREnet
Track: Network Administration
Network administrators rely on many different tools to perform daily administrative tasks and to help troubleshoot workstation or network problems. Researching new tools (or for that matter OS tools that install by default) can be a time consuming process and not something that’s high on an administrator’s priority list. If you’re looking for new or different tools to add to or supplement your toolbox, then this session is for you. We’ll highlight some free and inexpensive software that just might save you time or make your job easier.
C037. What’s New with Resource Management (Vendor)
Presenter: Roman Gonzales, Novell
Track: Network Administration
What's new from Novell's Resource Management Group? Novell
has updated its offering in the ZENworks suite of solutions. Come to this session
to learn what is new and what the future holds for this longstanding solution
from Novell.
