Changes to NewsBank Newspapers Available to MOREnet Members

Monday, June 23, 2008

The contract with NewsBank for a selection of full-text cover-to-cover newspapers has recently been rebid due to procurement requirements. Because of increasing resource costs, the Missouri State Library had to make a difficult decision in determining which newspaper titles will be renewed. For fiscal year 2009 (July 1, 2008 – June 30, 2009), the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and the Kansas City Star will be the only titles available from NewsBank as a part of the state-funded online resources. These two titles were selected for renewal based on an analysis showing over 75 percent of the articles viewed over the previous year were from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and the Kansas City Star.

Even though a number of newspaper titles are no longer available through NewsBank, please keep in mind that MOREnet members also have access to a number of full-text newspaper articles through the state-funded EBSCO databases, including Newspaper Source, located at search.ebscohost.com.
