K-12 District Research Project Partnership – Implementation Already Underway
One of the first activities to occur as part of the research project was a site visit to the Fab Lab at the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy (IMSA) by staff from MOREnet and Fulton 58 in August.
“IMSA has already integrated project-based learning into their pedagogy and there was a clear sense of student ownership of both the Fab Lab space and the projects,” David Drum, Research Manager for MOREnet reports. While at IMSA the research team also was able to visit the MIT Center for Bits and Atoms’ Mobile Fab Lab, which was visiting Aurora, Illinois’ SciTech Museum. They witnessed a steady stream of school-age children watching demonstrations of its 3-D printer, laser cutter, and vinyl cutter, and experimenting with 3-D modeling software. The site visit contingent returned confident that the enthusiasm and successes can be replicated in Missouri.
Both Fulton 58 and Grandview R-II will spend the fall semester putting the infrastructure in place for their respective projects.
MOREnet will continue to post updates on our K-12 Research Project page.
