Alaska SeaLife Center Program

The Missouri State Library and MOREnet invite you to participate via live stream in a FREE program by the Alaska SeaLife Center. Five Missouri libraries will be participating via videoconference to support the annual Summer Reading Program. The Alaska SeaLife Center has given MOREnet permission to stream the videoconference to other schools and libraries and we hope you can join us!

Supplies Recommended: There is a hands on activity with the videoconferencing sites. Streaming sites have the option to disconnect early or they may choose to provide Play-Doh or modeling clay to enhance their attendees' experience. This live activity will review what attendees have learned in the SeaLife program by building a clay harbor seal!

This program is aimed at the K-3 grade level and will:

  • Teach how so many animals are able to live in cold Alaskan waters.
  • Answer which marine mammals in Alaska rely on blubber to stay warm and which rely on thick fur and other adaptations.
  • Observe live seals and sea lions.
  • Study other animals like sea otters, walruses, polar bears, and whales.

The program will be available at the following times:

  • Tuesday, June 29th, 10:00 – 11:00 a.m.
  • Thursday, July 8th, 2:00 – 3:00 p.m.
