Yahoo email addresses affect discussion lists

Yahoo recently made changes to their email policy that breaks the delivery of messages from a discussion list. MOREnet hosts a number of lists for our customers that are affected by this change.

The change tells all email servers to reject emails from addresses that don’t originate from Yahoo.  When lists receive a post to the list from an individual, the list server makes changes to the posting before sending it out, which breaks the new Yahoo policy.

In summary, not only will email addresses will not receive messages, the resulting bounce messages could get the user kicked off the list. When a email address tries to post to the discussion list, most people will still receive the message.

We hope that Yahoo changes their policy as a result of feedback from their users, as the new policy affects every discussion list, not just the ones hosted by MOREnet. In the meantime, consider using a different email address for discussion lists or subscribe to the digest version. You will need to do this for every discussion list separately.

To select Digest Mode for MOREnet lists:

  1. Visit and choose the list(s) to which you subscribe.
  2. Enter your email address in the bottom box.
  3. Click "Unsubscribe or edit options".
  4. Enter your password in the top box.
  5. Click “login”.
  6. Scroll down to the section to “Set Digest Mode” and select “On”.
  7. Click "Submit My Changes".
  8. Repeat this process for each list you subscribe to.

If you do not see the list you subscribe to, simply type your list’s name into the URL. For example: list’s name. If you have additional questions or need help changing your list settings, contact MOREnet Technical Support.
