Affiliate Services
MOREnet provides more than a connection to the Internet; it provides services that can help institutions join the information community. Affiliates can register four coordinators who are responsible for contacting MOREnet for requesting technical support and other services.
Dedicated Line Installation
MOREnet provides dedicated lines for Internet connections to
its customers. MOREnet offers 56 Kbps, 384 Kbps and T1 (1,500 Kbps) connections,
as well as larger connections upon request. MOREnet does not install ISDN lines
because they are not available statewide, nor does MOREnet offer dial-up services
to its Affiliates except CINs.
MOREnet coordinates installation of each connection for new Affiliates. MOREnet can provide pre-installation consultation to help determine the best networking options. When an organization becomes an Affiliate, MOREnet staff assigns Internet Protocol addresses; selects, orders and assists with equipment installation; and provides documentation to help make network set-up easier.
MOREnet provides 24-hour, 7-day-a-week monitoring of MOREnet's connection to the Internet and all MOREnet data connections. Maintenance is provided in accordance with the Managed Edge Device Policy and Service Level Agreement (SLA).
MOREnet provides domain name registration service, and maintains and monitors hardware, software and configurations related to domain name services. MOREnet collects and analyzes network usage data, and upgrades the network backbone and Internet access when necessary to ensure adequate bandwidth is available for all MOREnet customers.
MOREnet provides security services, in coordination with the CERT Incident Response Center. MOREnet provides initial investigation and resolution, and will contact law enforcement on the Affiliate's behalf when appropriate. MOREnet communicates with the Affiliates regarding security issues and can make recommendations for problem-specific solutions.
The MOREnet technical staff can answer questions about supported
technology and help Affiliate representatives solve problems encountered while
using technology.
Consulting
In addition to pre-installation consultation, MOREnet consulting staff is available to work with Affiliates when more extensive technical work is involved. MOREnet can help determine the most appropriate technology to meet Affiliates' needs, and provide information regarding technology purchases so funds are spent wisely. MOREnet also provides consulting on Internet security, including good security practices and using specialized devices.
MOREnet makes available to its customers several valuable online information resources. EBSCOhost is an online search and retrieval system used to research periodicals, and provides instant access to indexes and abstracts of more than 3,000 periodicals, including full-text and images of more than 1,000 periodicals.
The NewsBank databases provide the full text from The St. Louis Post-Dispatch, The Springfield News-Leader, The Kansas City Star and a broad spectrum of nationwide newspapers.
MOREnet training includes Web clients, HTML, Java, networking, servers and security. An online course catalog describes training offerings.
Other Services
MOREnet offers additional benefits in a comprehensive collection of services unequalled by any other organization. Technical documentation is available on the MOREnet website. Discussion Lists are monitored and maintained by MOREnet staff on a variety of topics, and offer a means for MOREnet customers to share and debate information in an open, participatory forum.
Research and Development by MOREnet staff ensures MOREnet stays on top of the latest developments in technology. For its members, MOREnet staff researches, develops and reports on new technology and innovations.
MOREnet does NOT provide organizational e-mail accounts for Affiliate organizations.
