Expanding Internet2 to K-20
MOREnet was one of the first state education networks to receive
designation as a Sponsored Educational Group Participant (SEGP) under a policy
sponsored by the University
Corporation for Advanced Internet Development (UCAID), the organization leading
both the Internet2 and
Abilene projects.
Through this program, the MOREnet network is connected to Internet2.
More
Internet2 Connectivity Through MOREnet
MOREnet is one of the few state networks to accommodate the
diverse needs of higher education, elementary and secondary education, public
libraries, state government and other organizations in a single,
cost-effective network. The network, based on industry standards, was designed
to be highly scalable to grow easily with the increasing bandwidth needs of MOREnet's
customers and to support current and emerging network technologies.

MOREnet's Role in the K-20 Internet2 Initiative
MOREnet has been asked to take a leadership role in the development
of an Internet2 K20 Initiative that will take advantage of expanded access. The
mission of the I2 K20
Initiative is to enable the development and use of Internet applications,
tools and content to enhance teaching and learning and in other ways further the
mission of elementary, secondary and postsecondary education in the United States.
