MOREnet's Role in the K-20 Internet2 Initiative

In the spring of 2003, MOREnet was asked to take a leadership role in the development of the Internet2 K20 Initiative to take advantage of expanded access. The mission of the I2 K20 Initiative is to enable the development and use of Internet applications, tools and content to enhance teaching and learning and in other ways that further the mission of elementary, secondary and postsecondary education in the United States.

A major part of MOREnet's efforts in the I2 K20 Initiative is to serve as a facilitator, assisting Missouri institutions in collaborative projects that do not employ advanced network services but nonetheless use the Internet in meaningful ways to enhance teaching and learning, such as Project Neptune, Project Feeder Watch and ThinkQuest.

MOREnet also works to facilitate strong working relationships among Missouri's K-12 and higher education institutions. We seek input on the kinds of applications that are important to customers and plan on holding a series of discussions to ascertain needs and goals and to determine the best ways of facilitating collaborations to leverage the opportunities that Internet2 connectivity enables.
