- What is kinetic?
- kinetic is a suite of software delivering Internet services.
The primary services are Web, e-mail, e-mail account management
and Usenet news. Also included are a variety of customizable
Web applications, such as a calendar, community directory, job
listings and so on.

- What is the kinetic service?
- The kinetic service allows MOREnet customers to maintain their
organization's webspace and/or e-mail on MOREnet-managed servers.

- How do I maintain my webspace?
- Webspace is administratively accessed through FTP. Many HTML
editors support page publishing through FTP. Additionally, you
delegate publishing privileges to others, so that multiple
individuals can maintain different sections of webspace. Find more information at publishing to your kinetic services website with FTP.

- How do I maintain e-mail accounts?
- E-mail accounts are added and managed through a Web application known as "kinetic Manager." It and other individual account functions such as password changes are
sent through an encrypted session over the Internet.

- What is Usenet News?
- Usenet News is a global
collection of discussion groups. Anyone can participate in any of around 30,000
active newsgroups. The newsgroups are categorized by topic, and collected into
eight major hierarchies: computers, humanities, miscellaneous, news, recreation,
science, society and talk. All major browsers (Netscape, Internet Explorer, etc.)
include a news reader.

- What will my Internet address be?
- Your organization's Internet address, or domain name, can stay the same, or
it can change, if desired, within a small range of options. If you do not have
a domain name yet, MOREnet will work with you to register
one.

- What does kinetic run on?
- kinetic runs on Sun Microsystems hardware and Solaris operating
system. Core software technologies include the Apache webserver,
Postfix mail server, Java virtual machine, MySQL database server and Tomcat application server.

- How secure is the service?
- MOREnet follows the best current industry practices for security
diligently.

- Where is the hardware located?
- The computers used for the kinetic service are located at the
Telecommunications building on the University of Missouri-Columbia
campus, in the room containing MOREnet's Columbia network hub.
The Columbia hub is protected by two APCC Silicon series
uninterruptible power supplies and a diesel electric generator.
