MOREnet documentation is written to support installation and configuration using default directories and layouts as described below. DHCP, or Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol is an Internet
protocol that assists in the automatic distribution of TCP/IP information to network
devices (workstations, servers, etc.).Workstations and other network devices can
be configured to accept this TCP/IP information from an existing DHCP server.
TCP/IP software must already be installed on the computer. All
the appropriate software needed can be located on the system CD that comes with
the Macintosh.
Necessary Components
At least 2 Control Panels are necessary:
- TCP/IP
- AppleTalk
The Control Panels can be found by accessing the Apple
Menu on the upper left hand corner of the screen.
Set AppleTalk to Ethernet.
Next, select TCP/IP from the control panel menu. A new configuration can be configured here, allowing the original settings of the computer to be preserved.
To set up an alternate connection in the TCP/IP control panel:
- In the TCP/IP control panel, open the File menu and choose Configurations.
- Select a configuration from the list and select Duplicate.
- Select Make Active.
- Rename the new active configuration.
- Select Done.
The active configuration can be switched back to the original configuration as necessary.
Open the new TCP/IP control panel from the Control
Panel menu.
There are three options located at the top of the screen: File,
Edit and Help. Select Edit, then User Mode. Choose
either Basic or Advanced:
If the Advanced mode is selected, more options will be
visible.
In either option (basic or advanced) select Connect Via:
Ethernet, and Configure Using DHCP Server. Also fill in the Name Server Addr field with the appropriate DNS numbers. In some situations, filling in Name Server Addr field may not be necessary. Please consult with the local system administrator on whether or not these numbers are needed. The DNS numbers listed below will work. Close the TCP/IP control panel and save the changes. The machine will not need to be restarted.
