Voice over IP

MOREnet's Voice over IP (VoIP) projects are targeted into three areas: Toll Bypass, IP Telephony, and IP Voice Applications.

Toll Bypass
Toll Bypass examines using the IP network to bypass the toll network for calls between VoIP-enabled endpoints.

VoIP Telephony
IP Telephony is the replacement of a traditional "big-iron" PBX with IP phones and IP voice servers to provide standard telephony services.

New Tools for Network Management

The goal of this project is to determine the current and future needs for network management tools and to research new and enhanced tools to meet those needs.

IP version 6

Version 6 of the IP protocol has long promised to solve problems that MOREnet and its customers face. Unfortunately, it requires a widespread reconstruction of current networking software and hardware throughout the industry. When the time comes for the reconstruction, MOREnet will need to understand the standard and assist customers with the conversion.

Policy-based Networking

PBN involves the need to deliver network traffic to individual customers in a defensible manner, given a service agreement. The concept extends from handling Quality of Service in a mixed-traffic environment to dealing with individualized connections such as Virtual Private Networks and private connections. This project it designed to define Policy Based Networking for MOREnet and to explore options for its implementation.
