Dial-up and Dedicated Connections
Macintosh

Note: Support of users who install to a custom directory location or otherwise deviate from these instructions may be limited. MOREnet documentation is written to support installation and configuration using default directories and layouts as described below. MOREnet Technical Support strongly recommends you follow these directions carefully and accurately.

MOREnet supports Mac OS X TCP/IP services and Open Transport TCP/IP services in MacOS "Classic" 8.6 through 9.2.

Determine if TCP/IP is Installed

The first step to creating a dial-up or direct Internet connection is to determine if TCP/IP services are already installed to the Macintosh.

  • All Mac OS X systems have TCP/IP software preinstalled.

  • Open Transport is identified by the TCP/IP control panel. Most modern computers using pre-OS X system software have Open Transport preinstalled. The TCP/IP control panel can be found in the Control Panels folder, in the System Folder on the hard drive. Also check in the folder Control Panels (Disabled) (if this folder exists) for TCP/IP. If TCP/IP is found in the Disabled folder, the TCP/IP control panel has probably been disabled in the Extensions Manager control panel (enable and restart the system to load).

If TCP/IP is installed, proceed to TCP/IP is Installed.

If TCP/IP is not installed, skip to  TCP/IP is Not Installed.

TCP/IP is Installed

If the system is running Mac OS X, proceed to:

If the system has Open Transport (the TCP/IP control panel) installed, proceed to the installation of Internet applications and dial-up services. If all software services and applications have been preinstalled, proceed to:

TCP/IP is Not Installed

If the system has no TCP/IP software installed, and...

  • the system software is version 7.5.3 and above, install Open Transport from the system software or Apple supplied file(s) or disks.

  • the system software is version 7.5 or 7.5.1, upgrade the system software.
