H.323 Codec

IP-based H.323 codecs enable users to hold videoconferences with other H.323 codecs sites. MOREnet's Gateway and Gatekeeper Services enable multipoint conferencing with other IP-based units in the state.

How does it work?

To connect point-to-point, dial the IP address for other site's H.323 unit .

For a multipoint conference, configure your unit with MOREnet's Gatekeeper and then enter a "service" number that connects to the MOREnet MCU.

What is Quality of Service?

QoS is a measure of how smoothly your transmission reaches the other endpoint and theirs to you. In H.323 "QoS" will run over your existing Frame Relay T1 line and will maintain certain characteristics in the call.

Please check your line utilization to ensure you won't saturate your bandwidth. You need to allow for the 384 kbps bandwidth plus 10% overhead. Your total bandwidth, data and video, should be less than 50% of the size of the line you are using. Before implementing H.323, please check the current utilization of your line through radar.more.net.

Why do I need to use a switch on my H.323 codec?

A switch reduces the chance that packets carrying the transmission will collide with each other as they are sent and received. A switch provides smoother video and clearer audio than a hub.

Do I really need a full-duplex T1?

The bandwidth required for a call is double your transmission speed. A calling speed of 384k requires 384K to send and 384K to receive; that is, 768k or half of your T1. MOREnet T1s are full duplex, which means you are sending and receiving a full 1.5 Mbps. Therefore, the bandwidth required is the speed of your connection, not double the speed.
