Polycom Version 6.0.2 for PVX

Technical Bulletin, May 24, 2005

Note: Always download and read the Release Notes before upgrading your Polycom software. You will find the Release Notes listed with the software download on Polycom's Video Products download page.

MOREnet has certified the new PC desktop PVX software for videoconferencing use in the MOREnet infrastructure.

Note: Please read the Release Notes before you purchase the PVX 6.0.2 software and Web camera. Hardware, software, network and firewall issues must be addressed before you can use PVX. The main issues are covered in the Release Notes. The Release Notes also specify the system requirements for PVX.

Before the PVX, Polycom products performed encoding and decoding through a RISC chip integrated into the codec. PVX performs encoding and decoding on the local computer. To work properly, the local computer must meet or exceed PVX system requirements.

Polycom PVX version 6.0.2 provides superior technology and performance to PC/Desktop videoconferencing. Enhanced collaboration features include H.264, Siren™ 14, People+Content™ and AES security.

MOREnet tested a point-to-point connection between a PVX and a Tandberg 880 MXP. The video and audio on both units worked well. Both units automatically connected using the H.264 video algorithm and the G.722 audio algorithm. The only problem encountered involved the Tandberg 880 MXP Web interface. Incoming video displayed the message: Video Format Unknown. MOREnet contacted Tandberg and opened a trouble ticket on the issue. Tandberg is aware of the problem and said that its next software update will correct the problem.

MOREnet cannot test new features in every customer environment or configuration. Site configuration may affect functionality.

MOREnet requires that customers place their password-protected video units outside the organization's firewall to facilitate video troubleshooting and produce a quality video experience for participants.
