Jefferson City, Mo. — Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft announced today that the Missouri State Library, a division of his office, has awarded $8,000 as part of the REAL (Remote Electronic Access for Libraries) Program to support the MOREnet Shared Digital Collection with OverDrive.
“I’m pleased the State Library can assist our public schools to expand the offerings available to so many students,” said Ashcroft. “Libraries are such an important part of the fabric of a community, and are an important piece of a school’s fabric, too.”
The funding will be used to purchase 219 new e-books and audiobooks that will be added to a public school consortium that is working together to bring more eResources to Missouri's school children. All titles cover elementary to high school grade levels with both fiction and non-fiction selections.
A large number of audiobooks were purchased for this collection based on feedback from public school consortium members. The consortium currently includes 20 school libraries and continues to add new members.
The REAL Program is funded by an appropriation in HB12. This appropriation is made to the office of the Secretary of State and is administered by the Missouri State Library.
