Taking Attendance in Zoom

In the many training classes we have done for Zoom over the past six months, one of the most popular questions is, “Is there a way to take attendance in Zoom?" The answer is yes. There are actually a couple of ways.

First, if you have chat turned on, go into your account settings (Zoom.us, sign in, click My Account on the top, right side). Click Settings on the left and then In Meeting (Basic) in the main screen. Find and turn on Auto Saving Chats. Now at the end of each session, Zoom will auto save a text file with all public chat. Simply have your students mark their attendance by going into the chat window at the beginning of each session and typing in their first and last names.

The second way is to go in to your settings after the meeting. On the left, click Reports. Then click Usage in the main screen. Set your date range to the date of the class. When the report pulls up, you will see a number listed on the right side under Participants (it is the only clickable link in the report). Click the number and check the Show unique users checkbox on the top left. Then click Export. Zoom will export the attendance as a .csv file.
