Data Privacy Day - January 28

  • Published: Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2021

Data Privacy Day has its roots in the Council of Europe’s Jan. 28, 1981, passage of the Convention for the protection of individuals with regard to automatic processing of personal data, commonly known as Convention 108. In 2006, the Council designated January 28 as Data Protection Day to commemorate Convention 108’s passage. The United States and Canada followed suit in 2008 with Data Privacy Day.

Which brings us to this year. This year’s theme is Own Your Privacy.

Your data and personal information is like money and so you should know how to protect it as such. Learn how to manage your privacy settings and control your apps.

You can help spread awareness regarding data privacy on social media, within the workplace and among your friends and family. The National Cybersecurity Alliance (NCSA) has many tips and resources for promoting awareness.
