Close Unused Remote Access Ports

Remote access ports are essential for managing networks from afar—saving tech teams from hours on the road. Whether your tool of choice is TeamViewer, RDP, or ConnectWise ScreenConnect, these utilities make remote administration seamless.

Unfortunately, cybercriminals love that convenience just as much as we do.

In a recent threat campaign, attackers leveraged phishing links that triggered automated ScreenConnect installations. Because the software installs quietly with minimal friction, bad actors were able to quickly compromise multiple member networks.

To protect our community, We have proactively taken action across all MOREnet managed firewall sites by blocking 114 remote access tools that haven’t been explicitly requested as necessary by members.  How many do you use?  if the number is not 114, are you needlessly leaving a vulnerability open?

If your firewall is managed by MOREnet and your team suddenly lost access to a remote tool, simply reach out to security@more.net, and we will gladly open up the specific tools you need.

Take a few minutes today to review your tech stack: Define the remote management tools you or your vendors actually use, and block the rest. Closing unused ports drastically reduces your attack surface and keeps your organization secure.
