What Coaches Need to Know About Student Data Privacy

Coaches play a key role in protecting student privacy and having a list of guidelines available will help ensure they know what can be shared and posted online. Tammy Hasheider from Pattonville created a guide for her district and has shared what they created covering the topic of coaches and student data privacy. We’ve made it into a handy one-sheet for you to share with your coaches. Your district may need to update some of the information to match your own policies and processes, but this guide can help reinforce the importance of protecting your students.

Download our one-sheet to know what can be shared and what can’t be shared without parental consent. Make sure your coaches are aware that parents can opt-out and not allow information about their child to be shared publicly. Check with your administration for a list of students that have opted out.

Using an app for communication or to manage a team? There are guidelines for that, as with all electronic communication. Be sure to review this document with your coaches to ensure this year is stress free when communicating and sharing about your team’s accomplishments.
