Teaching Online Safety & Digital Citizenship Using DESE Standards (K-5)

With technology becoming an integral part of our lives, it's crucial to make sure kids understand how to protect their personal information online. Kids need to learn how to create strong passwords and not share them with anyone. This simple step can prevent unauthorized access to their accounts and keep their information safe. It's also important for children to understand how encryption works and why it's used to protect sensitive information. Teaching them about encryption methods can empower them to understand the importance of keeping data secure. Additionally, kids should also be aware of common types of online attacks, such as phishing or social engineering. By teaching them how to recognize and avoid these attacks, we can help them develop a strong defense against cyber threats. By teaching students about cyberbullying, we empower them to recognize and report such behavior. It's important to create a safe and inclusive online environment for everyone. Teaching students about digital footprints and cyberbullying not only helps them protect themselves but also fosters responsible digital citizenship. By raising awareness about the risks and consequences of online actions, we equip students with the necessary skills to make informed decisions and treat others with respect online. Let's continue to empower our students to navigate the digital world wisely!"
