Data Privacy Date – January 28!

This year’s theme is “Take Control of Your Data”!  One of the areas that is overlooked is deleting data no longer required to maintain.  Did you participate in a pilot that used actual data and have you requested that data be deleted?  Have you reviewed the State guidelines on data retention?  The less data you have the less you will worry about.

Below is a checklist to help you manage your data.

  1. Do you already have an app in your district that accomplishes the same goal?
  2. Have you requested permission to use the application and followed the internal vetting process?
  3. What control do you have over the data supplied?
  4. Refrain from filling out any fields that are not mandatory.
  5. App Audit – Do you have a process to regularly review the applications used and delete the data and applications that are no longer in use?
  6. Delete any unused email accounts.
  7. Manage your privacy settings.  Below is a link to view or change your privacy/security setting on numerous applications.  https://staysafeonline.org/resources/manage-your-privacy-settings/
