As we close out this year and enter into 2024 we tend to make resolutions. This is an opportunity to set intentions for personal growth and positive change. As we embrace this time, we should consider steps to enhance our security and privacy. Cybersecurity threats are always changing and evolving. It is important to be vigilant and re-evaluate current practices by following these tips:

  • Use strong and unique passwords. Longer is stronger. Use a passphrase. Create different passwords for each account.
  • Change default logins on your hardware.
  • Enable Multi-factor authentication (MFA). This adds an additional security layer to your logins.
  • Keep your software, applications and operating systems up-to-date. Delete unused apps.
  • Use caution with emails, attachments and links. Never devulge your login credentials.
  • Avoid public Wi-Fi. Surfing the Internet with public Wi-Fi is ok but make sure to use a VPN if connecting to financial sites or conducting private/personal business.
  • Review your privacy settings on various apps and online resources.
  • Monitor your financial accounts. Review bank and credit card transactions.
  • Share with Care. Once you give this information away it is out there forever. Make sure that if an app asks for access to your camera, location, photos or contacts that it is necessary for it to function.

Taking action to fortify your security at home and at work will help protect your personal information and assets.
